Born in Bulandshahr – Uttar Pradesh- Nilu as a child always liked to cook and help her mother in the kitchen——her father was a textile engineer and had a government job profile — his transferable employment had moved his family from one city to another. Alongwith her two younger brothers, Nilu completed her primary education in Mumbai, Maharashtra and got her Bachelor of Arts graduation degree with Honours (BA Hons) from Delhi. Nilu married a businessman in the year 1992 and decided to be a homemaker, eventually she gave birth to her two sons and has a wonderful married life. Whenever, family and friends gather Nilu prefers to prepare various delicacies for a treat.
She says, “We are happy being home chefs especially when everyone around us tastes our food and says: aap khana bahut accha banate ho (‘you make delicious food’ -English translation)”. In her late forties, Nilu’s sons went abroad to pursue their respective careers, Nilu now had all the time in her hands, but instead of resting and relaxing she engaged herself in productive activities- she started exploring her cooking personality—here she got fabulous responses from her family and friends- they encouraged her more to sharpen her culinary skills and go further forward with her professional experiences. Nilu joined a Facebook Community Group of Foodies and Cooking enthusiasts—she prepared a delicacy-a-day and started posting pictures and details about her preparations in the Group———here the community’s positive responses motivated her to participate in many on ground and online contests. Nilu Rastogi Gupta’s digital networking journey began.
Today, Nilu is the founder and co-admin of the Facebook Community Group ‘BEAUTY WITH PARENTING AND FOOD’—the group on a regular basis conducts contests, and arranges events related to food and other allied activities, the motive of this group is to encourage budding home chefs and provide a platform to display their culinary art. She regularly participates in various culinary contests and has won many awards—she got awarded for her snacks preparation at: Kitchen Champion in Khana Khazana Season 8, 2020 and was also a winner at Nestle Maggi competition held at, Taj Vivanta – Delhi; she won Sumeet Cookware Contest for her preparation for ‘Palak Stuffed Pasta Shells in Red Sauce Gravy’; she got awarded by Amul in the category of MIDNIGHT SNACKING for her preparation of- Stuffed Pasta Shells, again in the year 2020. Nilu hosts cooking shows in association with leading FMCG Brands and also writes food reviews for various restaurants. She has her Facebook page, Instagram handle and YouTube channel by the name- ‘Nilus Passion’. “I am happy, I am doing something constructive. When people do various activities, communication becomes better,” -Nilu says. She thanks her husband and sons for their great support—very recently her son gifted her an IPad to make her experience better on social media.
In her fifties today, Nilu says, “As women we can do anything, age does not matter. Recently I had been for a paragliding stint and I loved it. Never care what others have to say, learn whatever you want—and, do whatever you want. If you stop yourself, you will be your own enemy,”.
In her message for today’s women, she says, “Explore your talent. Do not sit idle. ‘apne man ko mat maaro, thoda sa apne liye jee lo’ (‘Don’t bury your emotions, live at least a little for yourself’- English translation). Spend time with your family. But do not neglect yourself. Make a goal- and try to achieve it,”.
